Medical Schools in the U.S.
FirstGenMedicine is a free website that allows students who are applying to medical school an opportunity to ask questions about what classes to take, how to be actively involved on campus an off-campus, how to prepare for the MCAT, and how to ultimately apply to medical schools. At the Learn Serve Lead Annual AAMC Conference we were able to gather further information for students regarding financial aid, applying to medical resources and other free resources. Afterwards, we were inspired to create a platform to help students like ourselves be better prepared to apply to medical school. We aim to help students utilize free resources, advice from students like themselves, and hopefully understand that they are not alone in their quest to accomplish what others in their family may have not yet done. Please reach out to us with questions that you may have, and with suggestions for what we can add to better assist students achieving their dreams of attending medical school!
Student | Illinois State University
I am studying Molecular and Cellular Biology with a minor in Chemistry. At Illinois State, I am involved in various activities including: College Panhellenic Council, University Scholars, Mentoring and Academic Success Achievement Initiative (MASAI), and Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LS-AMP). I have done research through the National Institutes of Health at Yale University and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). My passion for medicine stemmed early on in my life, and I am ecstatic to help other students pursue this exciting field.
Graduate | Loyola University Chicago
I recently graduated from Loyola University Chicago this semester with a Bachelors in Biology. While at Loyola, I was involved with Pakistani Students Association, the Mierisch Lab, and Prep to Succeed, a nonprofit that helps underresourced students prepare for the ACT. I am passionate about international and domestic medicine. Currently, I am applying to relevant jobs for my semester off. I am excited to help other first generation students pursue their goal of being the first in their families to pursue medicine.
